Taking the Ouch Out

Try saying ommmm instead of ouch. Meditation has been shown to improve chronic pain. The researchers at the University of Charlotte in North Carolina  performed a variety of studies and discovered that all you need are a few 20 minute meditation sessions.

For the study the participants received a variety of electrical shocks. They discovered that after three daily meditation sessions focused on breathing all of the participants had noticeably less pain through the use of mindful meditation.

Other methods were tried as well. The participants were distracted, and asked to do complex math problems, or answer questions. But the clear winner was meditation. Most stated that they received relief after only a few sessions. Of course practicing over time will bring long term effects.
